Twitter, August 2024
At this point, on August 30th, 2024. I am off Twitter. Done. No more.
It’s not just that I logged out and no longer have that need to see what’s going on. I am out. I downloaded my archive and deactivated my account. I couldn’t go back on if I wanted to. And I don’t. I’ve passed that point of FOMO.
Back in 2017 I started to get annoyed by the changes to the way it worked, how it was being used, and how it was allowing itself to be used. By October 2022 I decided there had lost nothing from my reduced activity, and probably no one had missed me either.
On August 10th, 2024, my archive was on my hard drive and I hovered over the ‘deactivate my account’ button. A slight pause, did I feel anything about this … nope. Maybe slight regret, but no, nothing. Press the button and, just like that, ‘hopkinsdavid’ on Twitter/X was no more.
I will not rejoin the site, unless something radical changes. If you think you see me on there, you don’t. It is not me. Please report the account and block them immediately.
If you choose to stay, be careful and look after yourself. If you choose to leave, good for you. You can find me on LinkedIn or Bluesky.
