Computer (ChatGPT) says no
Well, I wasn’t expecting this:
So what, I hear you ask, kind of dodgy nonsense am I trying to get ChatPGT to do that’s so nasty and worthy of violating their ‘usage policies’?
Well, I don’t think it’s anything nasty, so to speak. Here is my prompt:
“Familiarise yourself with the 1990 film ‘Pump Up The Volume’ starring Christian Slater. Summarise the main themes of film and how they relate to modern society and teenagers, and the issue surrounding education, wellbeing, and authority (and the abuse of it)”
I watched the film again recently (it’s one of my favourites) and saw so many similarities in the themes of the film, modern life, schools, authority (or lack of), misuse of that authority and power, etc, I wanted to see if ChatGPT could help me organise my thoughts and explain the pattern I was seeing from 1990 small-town American life to my life and society in 2024.
ChatGPT started a response and gave me about 2 paragraphs before dropping this error message.
If you know the film, let me know what you think (about what I was asking AND whether you think I have violated OpenAIs policies)? If you don’t know the film, go find it (streaming service or a £3 DVD from eBay).
I genuinely don’t understand ChatGPTs response.

I don’;t understand it either, but I actually got a reply when using ChatGPT 4o. https://chatgpt.com/c/123239ff-1931-4cd7-a2ae-b3f5909917a0
I tried to share the link and it came up immediately ‘sharing of this link has been disabled by moderation’.
Very unusual behaviour, but it seems to be resolved today.
Update (22/07) – I tried the prompt again this morning and I got a response. I can only think my multiple attempts (and thumbs-down response) got through to the system that this didn’t contravene any usage policy.
