Twitter; what's all the hype about then?
I’ve just been inducted to the work of Twitter! I’m not sure if I wanted it, or indeed deserved it, but I am there none the less, and trying to work out what it’s all about, and is it worth it.
When I first tried Facebook I hated it. Then I started to find loads of games and other people on it, and I loved it. Now I hate it again. I am bombarded by requests from people I’ve never heard of, games and silly quizzes I never wanted to know about in the first place, and not to mention the Groups for “I bet I can find 1,000,000 people who like Facebook”. Sod that, I don’t care!
So, what of Twitter? First impressions are good; I like the design, I like the simplicity, I like that fact there isn’t much else to do other than ‘twitter’ on about things and you only get 160 characters, so no great long monologues!

On the blog Twitter – A Teaching and Learning Tool there are some great comments about the advantages and disadvantages of Twitter, like:
Twitter is “unique in this (learning and teaching) role because it is all about conversation on a larger scale. Not just instant messaging with one or two contacts or including a Skype call in your lesson, but speaking to a wider network of fellow professionals.”
Watch the YouTube video from CommonCraft (below) and see why it is fast becoming the tool on everyone’s lips (like Facebook was last year, and mySpace about 8 years ago).
